The VFW Youth Group offers scholarships to seniors.
Graduating seniors from VFW teams will be eligible to qualify to receive a Senior Recognition Award from VFW provided they meet eligibility and qualification requirements.
Requirements of Eligibility
- The candidate must have played on a VFW team for at least three of four years during high school (9 th thru 12 th Grade) and two years in the Winter (Junior) Season.
- The Grade Point Average (“G.P.A.”) is based upon the 4.0 maximum numbering system. Plus or minus grades are not recognized, nor are extra points given for special college courses taken such as Advanced Placement Courses.
- The candidate must maintain a cumulative unweighted G.P.A. of 3.00 or higher as a high school student (9th thru 12 th grade).
- G.P.A.’s shall be based on final grades received in 9th thru 11th grades and the first semester of the 12 th grade.
- Official or Unofficial transcripts of grades must be included for verification of G.P.A
- The candidate must have at least 40 hours of community service for which 20 hours must be related to VFW activities during their high school years.
- VFW activities include: Keiki Kodomo Basketball Camp, Post Building Cleanup, shoe and sock drive, assisting with the Holiday Party or End-of-Season Party and/or other contributions that assist or benefit VFW.
- Each candidate must answer four questions (150 words or less) which will be determined by the VFW Senior Recognition Awards Committee (the “Committee”).
- Each candidate must be interviewed by the Committee.
- The Senior Recognition Award application must be completed by the deadline date determined by the Committee and a wallet-sized “Senior picture” will be requested for placement in the upcoming VFW Tournament (annually in October).
